PROJECT: The City of Newark's data dashboard draws on 5 databases and 3 software platforms, blending live feeds to give the Mayor and his team a real-time snapshot of all the city's data. They can spot trends and discuss possible causes. It is also all publicly available.
INFRASTRUCTURE: LinkNWK was made possible by the incredible fiber infrastructure of Newark. 45 kiosks will allow for 500Mb+ WiFi speed tests on a 10Gb network. A few strands of the city's 26mi dark fiber is used to light up the streets. Real time analytics allow for pedestrian traffic modeling and emergency alerts.
The program was crafted as a legal partnership between Newark, its economic development nonprofit, and Intersection/Sidewalk Labs.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Newark Fiber provides 1Gb and 10Gb service at the lowest prices in the country. Starting at <$50/month for 1,000Mb speed internet, this all net-neutral speed test is the fastest that you have ever seen.
Future fiber uses would ideally include vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, carrier agnostic 5G, and a low frequency / high propagation network for IoT work.
DATA: Spread the Vote uses a customized intake system and dashboard that allows 5 state directors, central staff, and field staff to view every aspect of the operation right on their mobile phones.
